About Mary Kererwe Katana
Mary Kererwe Katana now deceased was born 80 Years ago (1944) in Kigarama-Sheema, Ankole District, she came from a family of five children of whom she was the only girl. The circumstances of the time dictated that priority for education opportunities be given to boys, as such all her male siblings received minimal education. Throughout her life Mary Kererwe Katana was a fierce educationist who through immense strife was able to educate biological and non biological children in the community she resided in of Buyanja, Kyeizooba, Bushenyi district.
She lived with the belief that education would have expanded her scope of opportunities in life, and this formed her core belief that the only gift anyone would offer any child, Girls and boys alike was education. Education is an equal opportunity giver. It does not matter where you come from but if you acquired an education, your chances at a good life are as good as the next person. This is the basis of the legacy project of Kererwe Education Scholarship Initiative (KESI).
